Vocations Promotions

Though the sacrament of Baptism, all are called by God to participate in the mission of the Church and to image in their own person God’s love for all people. This call to holiness and service is lived out as a single, married, consecrated, or ordained person. – Adapted from National religious Vocation Conference

St Stephen’s has a rich history  of continually promoting vocations through prayer and works. We support the annual Run for Vocations as a parish team. We host two Holy hours dedicated to vocations and we offer a Lenten Vocation’s Prayer Tree, with all the names of our seminarians on it..  We have been blessed with many vocations from our small urban parish.

Let us continue to pray and support all our ADW seminarians and the three men ( from our parish)currently in seminary: Conrad Murphy, Alex Buder and Matt Shoemaker.  A new seminarian and recent graduate of GWU, Andrew Buonopane, will join them in the fall. He will be in the first class to attend the new Archdiocesan Seminary.

Grace Mortemore, our past chair of the Vocations Committee, entered the Caterina Benincasa Dominican Monastery on April 29, 2012.

Prayer for Vocations

Heavenly Father, we thank you for the gift of the priesthood and consecrated life. We beseech your Holy Spirit to inspire men and women in the Archdiocese of Washington to answer the call to the priesthood and consercated life. Give them the courgage to embrace their vocation, the faith and zeal to follow you with joy; and the perserverence to remain loyal friends of your Son. Please protect and streghten all priests, deacons, and consercrated brothers and sisters, especially those in the Archdiocese of Washington. Help all Christians to become better disciples of Jesus, and when our earthly pilgrimage is complete, bring us the joy of your Kingdom. We ask this though Christ Our Lord, Amen.
